Safe-by-design gelatin-modified zinc oxide nanoparticles

We report an innovative low-cost wet precipitation synthesis method for gelatin-modified zinc oxide nanoparticles (GM ZnO NPs) at the interface between gelatin hydrogel and aqueous electrolyte. Diffusion of ammonia through matrices with different contents induced product in contact surface solution ions. The obtained precipitate was subjected to thermal treatment partially decompose adsorbed NP structure. Physicochemical properties GM NPs were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential analysis (DTA), thermogravimetry (TG), photon correlation (PCS), zeta potential measurements, inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). estimated mean crystallite size powders range from 5.8 12.1 nm. synthesized exhibited nanosheet morphology arranged into flake-like aggregates. toxic investigated vitro human hepatocellular carcinoma cell line HepG2. thiazolyl blue tetrazolium bromide (MTS) assay used assess viability, 2′,7′-dichlor-fluorescein-diacetate (DCFH-DA) examine formation intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), comet evaluate genotoxic response. slightly reduced HepG2 did not induce ROS formation, showed low very high doses (100 µg mL−1). fabricated modified using proposed methodology deserve further study as candidates antibacterial agents or dietary supplements overall toxicity.
